The guests were greeted by confident and enthusiastic children from Years 5 and 6 who did an exceptional job of making everyone feel welcome as ambassadors for the school.
The children conducted tours of the school as the guests were invited to spend some time in classrooms.
The visitors experienced a wide range of learning from things like the daily Literacy Block to Art, Philosophy, Maths, PE, Science and Sport - just another day in the life of St Mary’s.
Classrooms all looked ‘spic and span’ with displays attractively on show and children ready and to share their enthusiasm for learning and their love of St Mary’s.
St Mary’s principal Mrs Louise Grant said the day was a great way to showcase what the school has to offer.
“It was an excellent day with a varied programme which painted a vivid picture of life at St Mary’s,” Mrs grant said.
“Using the older students as tour guides was fantastic.
“They were excellent ambassadors of the school.
“I can not convey how impressed I was with them.
“While guiding their groups around the school, the students shared their feelings about the school and their positive learning experiences.
“The parents were particularly impressed with their student tour guides.
“They also appreciated the varied learning experiences on display in the classrooms and how enthusiastic the children were about their school.
“The student presentations was quite entertaining also with some quality performances on display.
“It was good fun.
“The day was the perfect way to showcase the learning opportunities at St Mary’s,” she said.
After the school tours, there was a gathering in the hall.
There were presentations by students from across the school showcasing some of the activities and learning the children experience.
The Kindies set the tone with their outstanding singing, followed by children from Year 2 sharing their incredibly creative Dreamtime stories.
Kate Richards from Year 5 then shared a presentation she recently compiled on her iPad about homelessness.
Kate was followed by Sophie Thorley, also of Year 5, who presented the speech she has prepared for the current Archdiocese-wide Speech Festival, “The Gifts Within”.
The St Mary’s School Choir concluded the presentations with an outstanding rendition of “Flashlight” by Jesse J.
