Taking it one step further than a former Prime Minister, who only threatened to shirt front his Russian counterpart, the former Mayor of Young had the tie off and the shirt partially undone as he expressed his dissatisfaction to the nation via a reporter, on the recent outcomes following the amalgamation of Young, Harden and Boorowa.
Although being Mayor at the time of signing the “Fit For The Future” documents and accepting a well paid position on the new Hilltops Council as a local chairman, you would think all was quiet on the home front, but evidently that is not the case.
Around twenty former Mayors gathered in Sydney on Thursday morning June 9, to vent their dissatisfaction to the decisions that were made, reportedly comparing Mr Mike Baird's actions as a “coup”.
The meeting in Sydney was organised by NSW Opposition Leader Luke Foley, at which well known radio personality Mr Allan Jones addressed the gathering.
Without making it a political rant, Labor Leader Bill Shorten has promised to fund $20 million to the Australian Electoral Commission to hold a plebiscites (there's a new word for the day) in all 152 NSW local government areas.
Without calling “Going Forward” a new word, the last new word I can remember was “Tsunami” - look how much damage that unfortunately created. I did think that the issue was state and not federal.
Here's a good Trivial Pursuit question for you. What has, or will eventually happen, to the Mayoral robes, chains, mace and all the other paraphernalia attached to the Mayoral position?
Perhaps the former Mayoral chambers can be turned into a museum of local government artifacts as I am sure there is a mannequin somewhere that can be dressed up to look the part.
All other relevant pieces of equipment used over decades of local government could be assembled sooner than later before souvenir hunters move in.
