Alan will head to Young later this month for the clinic which was organised by Development Officers in the Riverina region.
NRL game development officer Luke Branighan identified the importance of coaching updates in rural areas and so believed a clinic run by the former NRL player would be an appropriate way to achieve results.
“I’m sure during the coaching session he’ll pass on all his knowledge and experience from being involved for the top level for 15 or so years,” Branighan said.
“It’s a way to give back to our coaches, volunteers and rugby league supporters who give up all their time out of their own pocket.”
The clinic will be open to rugby league and league tag coaches in Young and surrounding towns who plan on, or currently coach teams from Under 13s to First Grade.
Branighan said a number of clubs outside of Young have indicated their interest, and a supportive turnout on the night would work in the favor of future clinics of its kind coming to town.
“It’s just an opportunity to get someone of Alan’s caliber in town which is quite rare and for him to pass on his knowledge and experience from his long, successful career,” Branighan said.
“Hopefully whoever attends can get some ideas and skills to pass onto their players to make them perform better.
“The people in Young have been lucky enough for it to be held here, so for anyone that’s coaching or plans to coach in any international age groups please come down and hopefully you can gain plenty of knowledge on the night.
“Myself and my fellow development officers thought it was a perfect opportunity to give back to all the fantastic volunteers who give so much to bush football and do it out of their own pocket.
“Hopefully this is a big thank you from us and hopefully they continue their fantastic roles with whatever club they’re involved in.”
Alan made his debut with the Raiders in 2000 and has since earned a number of accolades including player of the year in 2006, Dally M award winner of 2008, and being selected for the Country versus City match in 2009.
He retired in 2011.
The clinic will be held at 6pm on Monday, July 18 at Keith Cullen Oval.
It will run for approximately two hours, is free to attend and doesn’t require registration.
