Young Netball Association will field three teams in different age groups for the event.
Young will be represented by Under 12s, Under 13s and Under 14s teams in Division Four this season against some of the best young netballers from around the state.
Secretary of the Young and District Netball Association Trish Patterson said she expects the teams to perform well at the championships.
“I expect the teams to be right on their games this weekend,” Trish said.
“All three sides have been working very hard.
“They have each trained twice a week since February, showing good dedication.
“The girls have worked very hard on developing their skills and becoming better netballers in preparation for this weekend.
“All the coaches and managers have put in a great deal time and effort to have the girls ready.
“The State Age Championships are what the sides have been focusing on since they began this campaign.
“They were all buzzing in anticipation at training this week.
“I expect they will be jumping out of their skin come Saturday morning.
“Luckily, each side has a good coach, manager and carer to look after them.
“The association wishes all three teams and their supporters the best of luck over the three days,” Trish said.
More than 3,300 athletes from 309 teams representing 87 associations will take the courts for the 48th instalment of the competition.
Along with the thousands of players taking part, more than 400 coaches and 500 umpires will be joined by tens of thousands of spectators, marking the State Age Championships as one of the largest female sports tournaments in Australia.
With four divisions in four age groups Under 12, 13, 14 and 15s, the State Age Championships will showcase potential future stars of one of Australia’s largest female participation sports.
At last year’s State Age Championships, the Under 12s finished 10th, Under 13s finished 13th, Under 14s finished 15th and the Under 15s finished 12th.
There is no Under 15s side this year.
The three Young teams leave today for the championships in Berkeley hosted by the Illawarra District Association.
Amazingly, the Under 12s and 14s each play 21 matches over the three days, while the Under 13s will play 23.
The full State Age Championships fixture list is available on the Netball NSW website.
