On Friday Gundagai highway patrol pursued the Audi TT Coupe driver after he accelerated away from officers who had pulled him over. 

The chase was stopped for safety reasons, however, the man was later detected still driving at a high speed just past Holbrook thanks to truck drivers’ information. 

The driver’s efforts to evade police saw him get bogged beside the highway before attempting to flee on foot.

The 29-year-old was later arrested by police and now faces a string of charges.

He was refused bail at Albury Local Court and is due to reappear on Monday.

The driver has been charged with dangerous driving leading police pursuit (Skye’s Law), being an unaccompanied learner driver, not displaying L plates, dangerous driving and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.

NSW Police Assistant Commissioner John Hartley has praised truck drivers for their aid during the pursuit and tracking the dangerous driver.

“The Traffic and Highway Patrol officers involved in the alleged pursuit were assisted by truck drivers who were travelling in the area at the time of the incident,” Mr Hartley, the commander of the traffic and highway patrol command, said.

“We would like to thank those drivers, who not only provided valuable information to officers on the location of the Audi, but who also assisted in the safety of their fellow road users.”
