The Round 15 reunion day will feature 1976 Reserve Grade premiers, 1986 Under 16 premiers, and the 1991 First Grade and Under 18 premiers who will gather to recall past glories. While the club will celebrate these particular teams, anyone who has played for the Cherrypickers in any grade over the years is also invited to attend.
Organiser Geoff Hill said with all the current grades playing quality football this year, it will be a boost to the ‘Pickers to have these past teams in attendance for the Young versus Wagga Kangaroos match.
“We will be all meeting near as possible to the bar and no doubt some long range tries will be scored, as will the past friendships that these teams had,” Hill said.
The reunion round will double as inspiration for the Cherrypickers as it features players from First Grade’s last premiership which occurred 25 years ago, as well as the Under 18s from the same year.
Meanwhile in Reserve Grade, 40 years ago the victorious side played and defeated Harden Hawks 30-7 in the grand final at Weissel Oval. The team (pictured above) consisted of (back) K Tomlinson, Alby Arabin, John McGrath, Adrian Saines, Chris Slater, Mark Anderson, Alan Leahy, Geoff Hill, coach Max Gilbert, (second row) G King, Robert Smith, Garry Nicolls, Beau McMahon, Stephen Hughes, Mark Cullen, Michael Hobson, (front) John Rodwell, Geoff Burns, Terry Perrin, Brian Patterson, Wayne Collier and manager Greg Murray.
In the Under 16s the premiers were coached by Peter Hargraves and captained by Brett Cullen. These boys had a 10-4 win over Temora who were undefeated up until that game.
After the Round 15 games the reunion will continue at the Young Services Club. All are welcome to help celebrate the club’s history and past premiership glories.
“We have been passing out invitations to all who we can find but some we haven't found and please accept our apologies if you have not got that Invitation,” Hill said. “So to all of those that represented these four teams, please come along and enjoy the day.”
