With the CWAFL board declaring Round 12 a washout the Saints were spared a clash with the Dubbo Demons last week, but as of Wednesday all clubs were given the green light for play in Round 13.
Despite weather continuing to playing havoc around the region, all clubs indicated their eagerness to play at the CWAFL board meeting on Sunday.
On Wednesday CWAFL chair Craig Gale confirmed at that stage the upcoming round “certainly won’t be cancelled”.
”Young and the Gaints are one of those games – whether it’s played on the top ground in Bathurst or in Young as the alternative, but it’s looking to go ahead,” Gale said.
“At this point we’re pretty hopeful the round will proceed.”
The conditions of the grounds at Bathurst remain unknown, although Gale confirmed clubs have made alternate training arrangements over recent weeks to allow the field to settle come game day.
“I know that Bathurst have been training indoors at a gym and working on indoor courts as to try do some level of training as they can’t train on the ground,” he said.
“I’m assuming most of the clubs would be in the same boat.”
Meanwhile news of the round going ahead is music to the Saints’ ears who are keen to get back on the paddock in two grades this weekend.
Young will take on the Bathurst Giants at George Park, Bathurst in Under 18s and First Grade, while the Saintees will endure another weekend without play.
Saints club person and player Geoff Harmer said the boys in red, white and black are looking forward to the clash against the winless Giants, but are in no denial it will be a tough round.
“We have a few out of the Under 18s this week so they’ll be a little undermanned, but there’s players who’ll step up for seniors,” Harmer said on Wednesday.
“Hopefully when we do play we can get the teams on the paddock, keep Giants winless and get two games clearer on the ladder.
“But there’s every chance there’ll be snow in Bathurst this week – if that stuff gets in and wrecks those ovals, who knows what’s going to happen.”
On Saturda the Under 18s will kick off proceedings at 12.45pm against top-of-the-table Giants. This will be followed by First Grade at 2.30pm.
