Along with the annual charity day the club will also host their Ladies Day and Reunion Round, followed by a Reverse Draw fundraiser that evening.
Event organiser and Cherryette, Jess McInerney, said the importance of the day lays in raising awareness for an issue that’s become an evident problem in our society.
“According to the Local Area Command, Young has had the highest reports of domestic violence incidences in the Murrumbidgee region in the past couple of years,” she said.
All funds raised on the day go toward the local Young Crisis Accommodation Centre and Margaret House, as well as other domestic violence support services in Young.
The junior Cherrypickers will work in partnership with senior league in holding a Domestic Violence Awareness Day across at Keith Cullen Oval.
“The Young Cherrypickers’ Ladies Day event has chosen to support this local campaign again this year and to raise money for the Young Crisis Accommodation Centre who support victims who are in crisis,” she said.
“The Young Crisis Accommodation Centre staff are on the front line and offer support in access to accommodation, referral to required services such as counselling, Centrelink and legal access as well as court support.”
A representative of the Young Crisis Accommodation Centre said the donation will go into supporting homeless clients in reestablishing housing and furniture they need.
“First of all it promotes awareness of domestic violence to the wider community, and the support that sporting clubs give reaches a wider spectrum of the community as well,” she said.
McInerney encourages the community to support the day in wearing a splash of yellow and donating to charity tins.
We’d like them to come and support the day. We’ll have tins going around – Jolly Roger, Elevations Restaurant, RAPJAm Catering, Renee McInerney Remedial Massage and Boorowa IGA who all donated raffle prizes for the event.
