Stadium Stomp SCG provided entrants with the unique opportunity to take on some 6,300 stairs up and down the SCG and Allianz Stadium grandstands and raise money for a nominated charity at the same time.
The Young team raised their money for research into Motor Neuron Disease after a number of their group have had loved ones affected by it.
The Young team comprised of Karen Thornhill, Chris Wark, Katrina Bannister, Tarnia Flett, Ashlynn Bannister, Jeni Wark, Louise McKnight, Mikaela Kelly, Tammie Edwards, Natasha Guida, Amanda Smith, Michelle Cronin and Melissa Wark.
Despite raising more than $20,000, team spokesperson Katrina Bannister said they are far from done.
“We still have a lot of fundraising to do,” Katrina said.
“We have had a great response so far, and raising more than $20,000 is a great effort, especially as $20,000 was our goal.
“We started the Stomp at 9.50am on Sunday with the team finishing between one hour and 16 minutes and one hour and 50 minutes.
“The final person finished 15 minutes faster than last year which was a great effort.
“It is a tough climb and you definitely know you have been working hard when you finish.
“Our team were only 13 people out of thousands who did the Stomp.
“There was also a very large crowd of supporters on hand to call out encouragement to all the teams,” she said.
The fundraising won’t stop now the Stadium Stomp has been completed, with the group currently holding a raffle.
“We are raffling off a car which will be drawn in December,” katrina explained.
“Harden Geelan gave us a very good deal on a 2016 Holden Spark.
“We are raffling the Spark, valued at $15,000, for $10 a ticket.
“Hopefully, it will get the same support we had with the Stadium Stomp to help raise more money for MND research.”
