In what ended up a spiteful match the Young boys showed too much class for the poorly disciplined Cootamundra side only going to the half time break 16-nil up.
Coaches Steve Woolford and Stuart Norton were far from happy with their side’s performance, saying the boys are still playing too much as individuals and not enough as a team. They wanted more emphasis on playing as a team.
Woolford said if they played as a team they would come off the field at full time winning around 50-nil, and that’s what the Young boys did.
They defended well to keep the Bulldogs scoreless and backed each other up in attack to reap the rewards.
Jake Walker was once again a standout for the Young side in scoring three tries and leading the way in hit-ups and tackles. He was also rewarded for his outstanding play and got another start in First Grade where he was named in the Group Nine team of the week.
Jesse Corcoran scored a double and kicked seven from eight conversions in another big effort from him. He also earned a start in First Grade.
Angus Smith and Jacob Hardy were once again solid for the ‘Pickers in both attack and defence, with Gus getting himself a try and the other try going to 5/8 Jack Stanley who played his usual solid game.
This now sees the Young side go to fourth on the ladder with only four competition rounds left.
The boys now realise the slow start to their season has landed them in this position and that they must not lose a game from now on starting with Wagga Kangaroos this Saturday at Alfred Oval.
Come along and cheer on these talented Young men and help them on their way to the Group Nine 2016 Finals.
