As we reach the midway point for community forums across the Local Government Area, I have been extremely pleased with the positive engagement.

It has been very pleasing to see the level of interest from the community towards the Community Grants Program.
Up to $1 million is available under the program with individual projects capped at $50,000.
The grants are a great opportunity, not only for community not-for-profit groups, but also Section 355 committees of Council to put forward projects that will deliver social, cultural, economic or environmental benefits to local communities.
To ensure the Stronger Communities Fund is allocated to projects in an open and transparent way, Council is required to apply high standards to the decision making process, including the appointment of a local assessment panel that includes an independent probity adviser.
We have also received clarification that grants are not limited to funding infrastructure projects.
I am pleased to say events, arts and cultural programs are also eligible.
Community groups are the heart and soul of our villages and towns and it is an exciting prospect to be able to support our local organisations through the funding program.
The forums have also been important for Council to get feedback on local priorities, particularly in the villages.
They have been a great way to emphasise the importance the Hilltops Council places on ensuring open dialogue continues into the future.
Community groups interested in finding out more can contact Council’s Project Officer Leanne Leihn on (02) 6380 2000 or Leanne.leihn@hilltops.nsw.gov.au.
