ADFA Rugby Club were first to score but the Yabbies hit back soon after when Jim Martin made a break to put the Yabbies in a great attacking position which Riley Turner finished under the posts.
The Yabbies then switched off and allowed ADFA to hit back within minutes, before responding with another try by Turner out wide after Michael Stallard took advantage of an ADFA error.
ADFA led 19-12 at half time.
In the second half things fell apart for the Yabbies when ADFA scored a quick try. Young regrouped and captain Hagon Williams scored what is said to be the try of the year after he chipped and chased from 40 out.
However didn't help Young as ADFA broke through their defence to score another three quick tries. The final score, 45-19.
Special mention to Will Mundy and Riley Turner for stepping up and playing First Grade, while points went to Zac Williams (3), Brendan Shoard (2), Ethan Richens (1) and Turner earned players player.
Second Grade also had a tough hit out against ADFA. After a scoreless first half the Yabbies turned it on in the second half with strong forward runs causing ADFA to panic.
Winger Corey Randall and centre Julian Roles both crossed the line twice to create the 26-nil final result.
“We stuck to our game plan throughout the whole game,” coach Tom Wills said. “The first half was a good battle and the game really could have gone either way but we lifted in the second half and they just couldn’t match us.”
Another superb kicking game by Peter Maher helped the Yabbies dominate field position to earn him players player. Julien Roles had a stella performance in attack and defence earning him best on ground, followed by Corey Randall and Matt Reid.
This Sunday the Yabbies take on Goulburn in the first round of finals to be played at the Vikings Oval in Canberra.
