The garden design contains the representation of three rivers as Wiradjuri refers to land of three rivers – the Murrumbidgee, Lachlan and Macquarie Rivers.
The Wiradjuri people were skilled in hunting, gathering and fishing.
They showed a lot respect to the land and the environment and the St Mary’s garden has been established to express the school’s respect and gratitude for the Wiradjuri people and their way of life.
Each class decorated a stone with symbols of the Wiradjuri territory and culture.
These stones will be placed in a circle formation in the garden.
A special ceremony was held in the hall which involved the ‘Little Irribins’, a group of students with Indigenous heritage who presented a story.
Each class brought their decorated stones and placed them in a circle for all to see in what was an enjoyable NAIDOC Week celebration.
