On the last day of August, Young Women’s Bowling Club will be holding their Versatility Day which is one of the highlights of the year. 

Young WBC will host many players from all the clubs.  Versatility day is an interesting concept in that a team of four will play a Singles game, a Pairs game, a Triples game and finish up with a Fours game at the end all in one day. Entries are coming in already and the day promises to be a success. 

Members of Young WBC are reminded that items for the trading table, cooking, plants, books etc need to be planned. There will be raffles and 100 Club. The excitement is building.

NEW UNIFORM FOR 2017

Next year the Ladies at Young WBC will be stepping out in a new brighter uniform to be worn at Club competitions, Pennants and Away games to other clubs. 

Next year the Ladies will be going green with a brighter shirt with a red and green pattern and the Young Cherry logo on the back. 

Trousers, shorts and skirts will all be green to match the new shirt.  Social days at Young will still be smart casual clothes, and the club will have some spare shirts for you to borrow if you want to take part in a competition before you’ve had a chance to get one of your own.

Firstly a reminder that there will be NO BOWLS next Wednesday August 17. This week bowlers played triples and pairs with three games of seven ends.

The winners for the evening were Chris Wright and Valerie Parv, with runners up Bob Martin, Rebecca Grossman and Jenny Butcher. Congratulation to all.

The lucky winner of the club voucher was Mick Grossman.

Members celebrating birthdays this month are Heather Martin, Chris Wright, Dawn Cockburn, and Wal Penfold. We wish you all a wonderful day.

Darcy Ballard and Rebecca Grossman are off to Grenfell on Sunday to play in the Western River’s Singles Championships. Good luck to you both.

Our Open Day is coming up mid September so interested bowlers please pop your names up on the board for selection.

Young Services Club Indoor Bowls is played every Wednesday evening with names in by 6.30pm for play at 7pm. Anyone is welcome to come along and give it a try, you just might like it. See you all next Wednesday.

This Sunday our town competition grand-finals are being played. All rep teams will travel to Junee on Saturday for the Cherry Picker games and then on our traditional grand final day, we will finalise the town competition for 2016. We wish all the players the best of luck.

Remember that after the last grand-final there will be a short presentation where the grand-final winners will get their trophies and all the other players will receive a pennant.

Note that the mighty Winona’s Warriors will play the curtain raiser to the under 11 grand final in a format that allows parents and supporters a chance to watch a few games in case they have multiple kids playing.

Kathy and Jane make their mark. At this week’s meeting of the Young Bridge group we played a three table Howell Movement which produces one outright winner.   

The winners this week were Kathy Rolfe and Jane Wallace on 58 percent with Val Robinson and Maureen Braddon in second place on 52 percent.

In third place were Jenny McAinsh and Frank Davidson on 51 percent. Then followed Fran Meagher and Maryann Bryant, Ian and David Murray and Gwen Williams and Joyce Meale, respectively.

On Saturday, 16 players competed in the sixth Golf NSW Monthly Medal stroke round. The sponsors were Libby Plumley, Leesa Langfield and Lorraine Regan. 

Division one winner was Michele Blizzard with 77 nett, Division two winner was Kate Cooper with 76 nett and Division three was won by Larraine Nicolls with 78 nett.

The monthly medal in Division one and two was won by Pam Stolhand with 77 nett on a countback from Michele Blizzard.  Division three medal was won by Pammie McCloy with 82 nett.

Nearest the pin winners were Penny Greaves on the Elegant Timber Shutters and Blinds sponsored 7th hole and Pam Stolhand won the Keith Simmons Engineering 13th hole.

The ball competition winners with the day's best scores were Kate Cooper 76, Pam Stolhand 77, Michele Blizzard 77, Gail Hanigan 78 and Larraine Nicolls 78.

Wednesday was the much postponed fifth Golf NSW Medals stroke round.  The sponsored with Ros Anderson, Maxine McCormack and Lavell Hardy. It was good to see Lavell back on the course.  There were 15 players.

Jan Broderick was the winner in Division one with 71 nett, Kate Cooper continued her winning streak with an excellent 68 nett, and Larraine Nicolls with 78 nett won Division three.

Monthly medal winners were Kate Cooper in Division one with 68 nett, Larraine Nicolls in Division 2 with 78 and in Division three Libby Plumley wit 79 nett.

Ball competition winners with the day's best scores were Kate 68, Jan 71, Leanne Slater 74, Lorraine Regan 74 and Liz Harding 76.

Nearest the pin winners were Sandra Holmes on the Elegant Timber Shutters and Blinds sponsored seventh hole and Maureen Perkins in a card draw for the Keith Simmons Engineering 13th hole.

The lady golfers will be celebrating a very significant birthday on Saturday of their longest serving  member. 

Its a great achievement and many of us wish we were playing as well as today.  Lady golfers are asked to wear pink in honour of the birthday girl.

At home, Saturday will be a single Stableford and next Wednesday will be the sixth Golf NSW medals and stroke round.

Tipperary members enjoyed a good week of golf although last Tuesday’s round was washed out.

Thursday was a stroke event with Pat Hewen winning with 78/57 and runners up to Bill Foreman on 77/60 Pat was the only birdie winner and gobbles to Max Hall 1 Pat Hewen 1 Scott Bennett 2 bill foreman 1.

Sunday was the monthly medal round sponsored by Townhall Newsagency and round six of the Corbett Tyre and Battery competition.

A grade winner was awarded to Bill Foreman with 71/53 and runners up to Max Hardman 71/55. B Grade winner was Lindsay Sheather with his score of 74/52 and runners up going to Max Hall 78/55.

Birdie winners were Lindsay and Scott with 1 each and gobbles to Max Hardman 1 Bill Foreman 1 Max Hall 1 Robert Norton 3 Lindsay Sheather 4.

Pat Hewen was the only lady competitor winning on 81/60. There was no birdie hole winner or nearest the pin winner. Mens longest drive went to Max Hardman and Pat Hewen for the ladies. Bill Foreman took home the raffle prize.

Sunday will be round seven of the Corbett Tyre and Battery Competition with a Stableford to be played and the monthly meeting will take place on the August 21. Until next week, enjoy your golf.
