In a display of true determination the ‘Pickers brought home silverware in the Under 11s, 13s, 15s and Under 16s League Tag, and furthermore won the club championships on being recognised as the best performed club across all grades.
“That’s two years in a row – it’s hard to win that once, let alone twice,” club president Nick Hall said.
“It’s a credit to everyone from players and parents, to coaches and the committee.”
The Under 11s kicked off the winning spree as they defeated the Temora Dragons, 32-6. Young were never in doubt as they built pressure, tackled well and didn’t make errors – all the factors of good footy.
Riley Powderly was awarded the Rick Keast Medal.
The Under 13s followed on with a 40-8 win over Harden/Boorowa. Despite Harden scoring first, Young were quick to put their authority on this game and prove why they were strong favourites throughout the year.
Man of the match went to Matthew Noakes.
The Under 16s League Tag girls were up next in what Hall described as the most exciting game of the day.
Sharp, confident and composed, the 16s put in a team effort to outplay the Wagga Kangaroos, 20-14.
“They’ve built to that over a few years so I was glad to see them get that result before they leave and move up into seniors,” Hall said.
Ash Carroll was awarded the Rick Keast Medal.
Also playing their last game at a junior level the Under 15 boys continued their almost unscathed winning streak to place a 32-12 win over Cootamundra and reclaim their premiership title for a sixth consecutive year.
Hall said this was a particularly special result for the side who have only lost one game in the last five years.
“They lost one game in the Under 10s and have won every game since,” he said.
“We know it’s hard to win one, harder to win two and pressure to win three, but throughout their junior career they’ve won every premiership.”
Special mention went to fullback Nic Hall who was awarded the Rick Keast Medal, Jacob Lucas and Jack Staff.
Club presentation will commence at 2pm on Saturday at the Services Club.
