Jason Bourne (M)
Starring Matt Damon, Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Vikander.
Matt Damon last played amnesiac super spy Jason Bourne in The Bourne Ultimatium in 2007 – before the Obama presidency and the global financial crisis, and WikiLeaks was a couple of servers sputtering to life in Scandinavia.
The high points of this movie come when the frenzy boils down to a direct encounter between two people, which could be a violent confrontation or just an exchange of looks.
Two standout chase sequences rank with the best of the series.
The first of these, in Athens, is built on the gap between chaos and control; between Bourne's on-the-spot improvisations and the global overview of the bosses who track him from afar.
War Dogs (M)
Starring Jonah Hill, Miles Teller and Steve Lantz.
Based on the true story of two young men, David Packouz and Efraim Diveroli, who won a $300 million contract from the Pentagon to arm America’s allies in Afghanistan.
Love & Friendship
Starring Kate Beckinsale, Chloe Sevigny and Xavier Samuel.
Lady Susan Vernon takes up temporary residence at her in-laws’ estate and while there, is determined to play matchmaker for daughter Fredrica and herself too.
Also screening this week:
Bad Moms (MA15+)
Starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn.
When three overworked and under-appreciated moms are pushed beyond their limits, they ditch their conventional responsibilities for a jolt of long overdue freedom, fun and comedic self-indulgence.
