Monteagle Public School students and staff had a fantastic day when they all dressed up as their favourite book characters.
Parents, grandparents and other family members came along to watch the parade and were very impressed with the creativity that went in to the costumes. Everybody had a great day.
At Murringo Public School students dressed up as superheros to support Muscular Dystrophy Australia.
The students fundraised to send them a positive message for all those living with disability.
Young Public School and St Mary’s Primary also took part in the week-long celebrations.
Book Week at St Mary's was a fun-filled week of celebrating books and our love of reading. Children enjoyed reading books nominated by the Children's Book Council of Australia as quality examples of literature for children.
The aim of the CBCA is to engage the community with literature for young Australians and recognise the depth of talent in Australian children’s literature.
The theme for Book Week this year was 'Australia: Story Country' and all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 were engaged in a variety of activities.
These activities included:
- A professional musical and dramatic performance of the Children's Book Council of Australia award winning picture book "Mr Huff" (written and illustrated by Anna Walker). This performance explored the themes of understanding and processing feelings of anxiety and worry in kids.
- Creating and publishing a collaborative story using ideas from Kinder to Year 6 to share with parents and friends.
- Reading at recess - invited members of the community visited our school library and read to students (Young Fire Brigade - Shaun Rolfe and Ryan Terry; Young Police - Acting Inspector Kristin Marshall, and Ted Webber - The Lambing Flat Fellowship of Australian Writers' Group).
- This year's theme was 'Australia: Story Country’ and children joined their buddy class to learn about Australian authors such as Mem Fox, Aaron Blabey, Leigh Hobbs and Jackie French.
- A unique version of the Mem Fox classic "Possum Magic" was performed by some of our Year 5 students and Mrs Mandy Williams.
- Book Character Parade (Kinder - Year 6) with a sausage sizzle for students, parents and friends.
- Created artworks and literature responses based on the CBCA short-listed books to display in the school library
- Photo competition - students entered amazing photos of themselves reading a book in all sorts of weird and wonderful places.
