The year 2016 belongs to Wendi Deng.

Whether she is busy being of one New York's most influential socialites/businesswomen, sightseeing ancient ruins with Donald Trump's daughter or reportedly dating Russian presidents, she is living her best life.

Now the ex-wife of Rupert Murdoch is continuing on her own Eat, Pray, Love journey and Burning Man is her ashram. 

Deng joined numerous other high profile "Burners" in the Nevada Desert for the "radical" and "experiential" festival which takes place at a makeshift city every year. The rules are there are no rules, or functioning plumbing.

The festival encourages "radical self-reliance" and to "discover, exercise and rely on his or her inner resources". It is strictly an no-strings-attached exchange economy and the use of social media or technology is usually discouraged.

Since 1986 it's been the place where stoned hippies run around naked frolicking around bonfires.

More recently it's been the playground to Hollywood and Silicon Valley heavyweights like P.Diddy, Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg and Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin who wear handmade costumes and jump around to electronic dance music together. Daft Punk sometimes make a cameo. When they do they perform a set near the community's rubbish tip.

While the former Mrs Murdoch posted just a smattering of images from her time spent in Black Rock City, others like singer Katy Perry, models Cara Delevingne and Karlie Kloss and Kyle Sandilands and his partner, Imogen Anthony dedicated the majority of their time in the desert to publicising all of the fun they were having.

Sandilands and Anthony were overwhelmed at first after being told to roll around in the dirt before entering.

"The 'greeters' asked if we were 'Burning Man Virgins' (which we obviously were) they the made us get out the RV and roll around on the ground in the dust. They were very condescending of my cleanliness and how much we didn't know about what we were about to get ourselves into, but not everyone can go cold turkey on society and get straight on the BM [Burning Man] train straight away," Anthony posted on her Instagram account.

"This isn't just a festival, this is its on [sic] cult. But I love it."

The internationally famous folk wore more colour than a Faber Castell pencil tin, while Anthony stuck to her trademark barely-there-and-black style mantra.

Deng wasn't the only high-society guest. Paris Hilton and her brother Barron were there in their flamboyant yet flammable best.

While Gaia Jacquet-Matisse, great-great-granddaughter of French painter Henri, kept it Instagram appropriate by wearing nothing by gaffer tape across her nipples.
