Despite 55mm of rain the night prior and scattered showers throughout the day, play went ahead in an intense day of soccer on a muddy pitch.
In the Under 17s McAlister Motors capped off their junior career with a 2-nil win over IGA.
After a slow start and an own-goal, IGA picked up their teamwork and played an evenly-matched game in trying conditions.
Theo Burns scored a second half goal to secure the 2-nil victory for McAlister Motors – the second premiership title in as many years for captain-coach Frazer Burns.
Club president, Paul Cameron, described the Under 14s grand final as “the craziest game you’ve ever seen” as Job Centre outplayed their Carpet Court opponents.
Carpet Court opened the scorecard after three minutes of play as they caught Job Centre on the back foot. In what was a tough, physical encounter, Job Centre worked their way back into the game with a goal by Charlie Duff.
“It was the goal of the day – he’s hit this loose ball from about 30 metres out and it’s gone straight in under the posts to take the game into 1-all at half time,” Cameron said.
Mid-way through second half Nick Marens pounced on the ball to give Job Centre a 2-1 lead, which was further strengthened by Macklay Brownlie who scored with five minutes remaining to win the game, 3-1.
Steadfast Homes felt the sting of the Grenfell Wasps in the Under 12s as they went down 1-nil.
Steadfast’s Rhys Lacey – well supported by his backs and goalkeeper Cameron Job – were constantly under attack by the Wasps who earned their premiership title.
The Under 10s match left players and spectators gobsmacked as McCafe caught their opposition off-guard to score the first and only goal in the opening 30 seconds. The game was predicted to be tough as last time the teams met Gerrard and Partners ran out victors, 3-2, but McCafe rose to the occasion in a premiership they'll remember.
Full team reports to appear in Friday's edition of The Young Witness.
