With extensive work and some impressive upgrades, the iconic course should be in great shape for the annual event on Saturday, October 8, that continually attracts a large crowd to the meeting that is strategically placed at the end of the Spring school holidays.
This in itself assures the committee that there will be enormous interest in the traditional Most Outstanding Headpiece, Best Dressed Gentleman, Best Dressed Couple, Most Elegant Lady, and of course, Miss Burrangong Picnic Racegoer.
Word from the stables is that last year’s winner of the $5000 Cup, Sergeant Bilko is in full work under the guidance of his astute trainer, Mark Cummins.
The eight-year-old won his sixth race from 46 starts at the meeting last year and is reportedly fighting fit to once again contest the 1400 metre Burrangong Picnic Cup circuit.
With numerous meetings being forced to cancel in recent weeks due to heavy rain and unsuitable track conditions, the Young committee is indeed hopeful of some fine weather to ensure trainers have the best possible preparation of their horses in readiness of another massive day at the Milvale Road facility.
Burrangong Picnic Race Club president, Tom Wills, recently accepted a $1200 sponsorship cheque from Andrew Jones of the South West Slopes Credit Union (SWSCU).
The credit union is a long term supporter of the meeting.
“We’re very proud to be able to sponsor the race day again,” Andrew said.
“We’re more than happy to give back to the community when we can. It’s a great community event.”
Accepting the sponsorship Tom Wills said: “We’re just very thankful to have long-time sponsors like the Credit Union on board. If we didn’t have such generous businesses like this in the community we couldn’t hold events like this.”
