Young has seen huge growth in the sport in recent years and preparations are well underway to ensure the 2016/2017 season is another huge success.
Young Touch Association prides itself on providing opportunities for fun, fitness and socialising.
Committee member Jess McInerney urges everyone to get a team together and join in the fun.
“Our Association caters for all abilities and fitness levels,” she said.
“We are a fun, social and inclusive association.
“Get your friends, family or workmates together and enjoy this great sport.”
Last year, Young Touch Association focused its efforts on starting a ladies competition in town and this proved to be a huge success.
The competition was run on Tuesday nights and allowed many people new to the sport to build their skill levels.
The committee will continue with the initiative this year and urge women from all sectors of the community to get a team together and have some fun.
This season Young Touch Association will turn its focus towards increasing the town’s participation in representative touch tournaments.
Young Touch Association committee member, Ben Cooper, is excited to see Young Touch aiming to attend more regional and representative tournaments.
“We have seen the skill level improve greatly over the past few seasons and we are really keen to boost the number of rep teams we coach and send to major touch carnivals,” he said.
The more players from Young that attend these elite level carnivals, the stronger our local competition will become.’
While some players will be excited at the prospects of being involved in the town’s representative teams, the majority of participants are just excited to get together each week and play a great game with friends, family members or work colleagues.
Touch has become a major social event in Young.
Each Thursday night sees hundreds of people converge on Alfred and Keith Cullen Ovals and while there are plenty of dives, wraps, bumps and splits there is also plenty of cheers, laughs, catch ups and friendly banter.
If you want to get involved in this great sport nominations are now open and close on Friday, October 7. Nomination forms are available from the Australian Hotel.
The Association is willing to help in any way they can and can be reached through the Young Touch Association Facebook page or you can call Ben Cooper on 0427 322 982.
Ladies competition begins on Tuesday, October 18 with men and mixed games tapping off on Thursday, October 20.
