The 17-year-old claimed three men had assaulted her in Roxy Lane, Leeton last Saturday at about 4pm.
But in a surprise development, police on Thursday revealed they were no longer investigating the matter and withdrew a public appeal for information.
“Officers from Griffith Local Area Command, assisted by the State Crime Command Sex Crimes Squad, conducted a thorough investigation into the incident,” a police statement read.
“As a result of inquiries, no further investigations will be made into the incident.”
At the time of the initial release of information from police, the Leeton community was outraged, taking to social media with comments like “we’re not even safe in broad daylight”.
