The childcare centre’s hope is to provide the children with the opportunity to build positive relationships with the elderly members of the Young community.
Program organizer Carlie Gault said the program was brought about from studies that showed visits increased productivity and sense or worth in the elderly but also increased the wellbeing of the children and understand the different ways in which they can contribute to the local community in a positive way, while bringing joy to the residents at the village.
“The children really enjoyed the visits and it’s refreshing to see how the children see the residents for what they are without judgement, kids just see things as they are,’ Ms Gault said.
“It'’s really beautiful the children have made friends and the residents enjoy having us visit”.
Camille Williams from Southern Cross Care Apartments said the visits were providing the residents with a boost to their self-worth and self-esteem.
“The inter generational activities give the residents the opportunity to share their, stories, love and wisdom with the children from Gumnut Grove,” Ms Williams said.
“The visits give our residents a feeling of being loved, gives them attention and affection and gives them a sense of self-worth and self-esteem”.
Carlie Gault wished to thank Laurie and Sharron Bruce for their assistance with the program taking the children to and from the childcare the bus trip was a highlight for the children.
