Resident Jenine Meyn posted on Facebook, alleging the site of her former home was still littered with asbestos after devastating fires destroyed the South West town in January.

"Why would we be waiting on soil testing when there are chunks of asbestos sitting on top of the ground you have "cleared"... not to mention the pipe work sticking out from where the laundry used to be," Ms Meyn said.

Ms Meyns claims were supported by fellow Yarloop resident Kate Camisa.

"Same here - I keep finding asbestos and also have pipe they pulled up then cut off leaving a hazard, also earth rod and electric cable remains sticking out of ground OH&S issues everywhere," she said.

Recovery teams first discovered the asbestos in May during environmental assessments of the town,just before the town was re-opened to the public in June.

The resident's complaints add to a long list of criticism of the Barnett government's handling of the clean up, with residents and politicians complaining the clearance and rebuilding process is taking too long and costing too much.

In May, Yarloop hotelier Greg Burton was quoted $275,000 by the WA government-appointed demolition company – but got another local company to do the job for just $50,000.

Murrary-Wellington Liberal MP Murrary Cowper has also criticised his own government for its poor performance in the clean up.

"Unfortunately the clean-up around Yarloop is far too slow for my liking, we need to get some momentum into this," he posted on  Facebook while visiting Yarloop.

"$12 million has been allocated for it and I would have expected this place to be like a beehive not a morgue."

Two people died and 181 homes and businesses were destroyed in the blaze.

Preliminary results of interviews the State Government conducted with people affected by the fire show most have left or are planning to leave the town.
