It is a favourite pastime many take for granted. Not the Dream Cricket kids!
The Dream Cricket Clinic is a Rotary initiative supported by various schools across Australia as well as the Bradman Foundation based out of Bowral.
Rotary Club of Young president, Roz Faulkner, was rapt with the turn out at Young North Public last week for the fourth annual Dream Cricket Clinic that has been deemed another huge success.
Sixty children with special needs participated in the event, most of who were from Young as well as a number from Cowra.
The day that was run by Rotary Club and boosted by the assistance of a number of Hennessy Catholic College students who were supervisors on the day.
“It’s a special kit that is set up for children to be able to play cricket without hurting themselves,” Roz said.
“The screens are velcro screens, the bats are plastic, and the whole idea of it is the kids can learn how to play cricket without being hurt.”
Roz said from all reports the students loved the event.
“The kids had a good day – it was perfect weather and we hope for more children next year for a bigger and better day,” she said.
Roz extended a bit thank you to Kay McDonald who donated gold medallions for each of the students who participated in the day. They proved a big hit!
She also wishes to thank the team of Hennessy Catholic College students who assisted throughout the day.
