This time Corbyn took first in Points Sparring, first in Freestyle Sparring, first in Xtreme Weaponry, first in Sumo, first in Sword Combat, second in Traditional Kata, and third in Xtreme Kata.
This resulted in the Australian Squad athlete taking out both the NSW and ACT State Champion titles.
It’s the second time Corbyn has aimed to become an Australian Squad athlete ahead of competing in the AMAC Australian Titles to be held in Sydney later this year.
Head coach of the Southeast Australian Taekwondo dojo in Cootamundra, Mr Shayne Wilson, said he is very proud of Corbyn’s efforts.
“He, along with all our budding juniors, are being regularly fine-tuned by our numerous senior black and brown belt students who volunteer their time to help improve each students abilities and techniques,” Wilson said.
“ In between his training for tournaments, Corbyn concentrates on our upcoming end of year grading.
“The club couldn’t be prouder of Corbyn’s dedication and achievements.”
The keen sportsman said he is also encouraged to do his best academically.
“Mum says if I don’t study hard and keep my grades up I’m not allowed to compete, so when she calls class time I’m always first at my desk,” he laughed.
“She says we have to exercise our brain as much as our body. She’s the best teacher.”
Corbyn said he has really enjoyed the tournament, forming friendships with judges and fellow competitors alike.
“I made friends with lots of people,” he said.
“Receiving my trophies and medals made me feel so happy I just wanted to dance.
“Because my Dad and siblings could not be at the event I want to give everything I won to them.”
Corbyn’s mum, Christine, said she is proud to see how far the young athlete has progressed and developed.
“He wants to achieve better results for himself and this was an example of all his hard work and dedication paying off,” she said. “Corbyn understands there is more to the competition than just competing. His caring big brother side when consoling upset competitors, and congratulatory handshake and pat on the back for the victors are noted by all. He has captured the attention of an audience that thirsts to see him in action and his growing number of fans were certainly not disappointed with his performance.”
