If anyone thinks Lawn Bowls is a sport of the past then think again. Lawn Bowls as a sport is alive and well. Without looking at Presidents days in other Districts, there is the Australian Open, The Commonwealth Games in 2018, State Champion of Champions, State Pennants playoffs, Metro versu Country, NSW State Carnival, National and State Competitions, Bowl for Others Charity Carnival, Blind Bowlers National Carnival, then there are all the Mixed Tournaments that are really coming into their own at all levels.

This is a particularly busy time of the year as all Clubs in the South Western District have their President's Day and other Competitions. There are Social Days, Annual events eg. Cowra Challenge, Versatility Day, The Friendly Games, President'S Day, Melbourne Cup Day and the popular Cherry Festival Ladies Triples and Mixed Pairs and soon the Minor Singles and Pairs Championships will be held. The Twilight Bowls has begun recently and there are also competition days from other Districts that some of Young's Ladies attend and when the year is over the clubs are preparing for their Pennant competition which starts in February 2017.
Think of the age some of these Young Ladies are and you will see just how amazing they are. Young WBC had 14 members eligible for Veterans Badges in May this Year, the youngest veteran being 70. A lot of these Ladies compete in all the above competitions and that's only the last quarter of the year. If anyone wants to know how to stay young and active just look on your local Bowling Green. We have younger members who are really enjoying the game at social and competition level and we need more. So come along to the club any Tuesday morning or Wednesday evening. There is FREE coaching, a friendly atmosphere and bowls for you to use.
