For the past twelve months Edwina Beveridge and Blantyre Farms has been seeking approval for the proposed piggery, to be located near Harden, from the former Harden Shire Council and the newly formed Hilltops Council.

With many seeking the piggery proposal be rejected it has been an uphill battle for Blantyre that has seen them spend $250,000 to finally reach this point.
The proposed piggery will now go through a further round of public exhibition, following the receipt of requested additional information.
“The applicant recently submitted additional information that had been requested by Council and State Government agencies,” Hilltops Council General Manager, Anthony McMahon, said.
“Council is required to follow the established process under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, 1979, and make the information available for public comment and submissions.”
The revised EIS is available for viewing at Council’s offices in Harden, Young and Boorowa and on the Hilltops Council website between November 24, 2016 and January 3, 2017 (with submissions being received until 5pm on the closing date).
Council has also referred the additional information to the Environmental Protection Agency, the Office of Environment and Heritage, the Department of Primary Industries – Water and other agencies for their assessment and comment, as required by legislation.
“As has always been the case Council is unable to approve the development without the General Terms of Approval of the relevant state agencies,” Mr McMahon said.
“Until we receive feedback from those agencies on the additional information provided and the EIS exhibition period closes Council is unable to provide any further directions on the next steps with the proposal.”
