They have spent time focusing on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which Australia has pledged to help implement. 

There are 17 goals in total, and these inspiring students have learnt about them all. 

Whether they were taking part in International Day of the Girl Child research project that was led by famous actress Emma Watson (Goal 5 – Gender Equality) or analysing poetry that focuses on reforestation (Goal 15-Life on Land), these young people can talk to you about the problems that are facing our world and ways that they think we can move forward.

Last week the school was lucky enough to be visited by Julia Dean, from the United Nations headquarters in Canberra. Mrs Dean was very impressed with the students’ knowledge of their world and the passionate ideas they have for the future. 

The students spent the day talking with Mrs Dean about the goals and then using state of the art recording equipment to interview each other for a profile which will soon be on the official United Nations website.

Over the past two weeks, the world focus has narrowed a little more, with students learning all about Australia’s own neighbourhood, Asia, and in particular Indonesia. 

Students presented research projects about Asian countries, complete with demonstrations of Arabic speech, traditional food from Japan, Jordan and Taiwan and an extra exceptional treat - special visitors from Taiwan and Pakistan that shared stories with the students about their lives in their home countries.

The unit will conclude with the students learning about the current refugee crisis. 

With everything the students have learnt it is great to know that the future is in safe hands with the students from Murringo Public School.
