A man charged over an assault in Sydney's CBD at the weekend that left his victim in hospital with critical head injuries was responsible for a separate attack in the same location two weeks earlier, police allege.

The 24-year-old man will face Central Local Court on Thursday charged over the separate assaults on George Street in Haymarket this month.
The latest alleged assault occurred about 12.45am on Sunday, when a 31-year-old man was walking along George Street near the intersection with Hay Street.
Police will allege in court that the 24-year-old approached the victim and punched him in the face, knocking him unconscious, before running away.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the injured man at the scene before taking him to St Vincent's Hospital, where he was placed in a coma.
Police said on Thursday morning that the injured man remained in hospital in a critical condition.
Officers from Sydney City Local Area Command launched an investigation and reviewed CCTV footage of the assault.
On November 7, police allege the same man was responsible for assaulting two men, aged 23 and 28 at the same location.
The alleged attacker was arrested on George Street in Haymarket about 5.45pm on Wednesday.
He was taken to Day Street police station and charged with reckless grievous bodily harm over the weekend incident, and two counts of common assault over the earlier incident.
He was refused police bail.
