Four RFS trucks and 20 firefighters attended Monday afternoon’s fire at the corner of Murringo Road and Apps Lane. The fire was approximately two hectares in size. Both RFS and Fire & Rescue NSW crews attended another grass fire on the corner of Temora Road and Browns Lane on Tuesday morning.
Superintendent District Manager of South West Slopes Zone, Andrew Dillon, congratulated his crew on a fast response to both incidents.
Superintendent Dillon said as things continue to dry out and heat up, it’ll become too dangerous to use mechanical implements such as slashers.
“If you’re going to slash, slash as early in the morning as you can,” he said. “Avoid days where the temperature’s going to be high and there’s likely to be strong winds.”
Fire permits in the South West Slopes Zone will cease from Friday, December 2 until further notice.
