It is extremely disappointing that critical membership fundraising by the New South Wales Rural Fire Service Association has been questioned, despite meeting legislative obligations, intensive auditing and reporting requirements.
The Rural Fire Service Association was founded 20 years ago, with one of its core objectives being to provide tangible benefits to its members.
“The Association offers programs aimed at supporting the men and women of the New South Wales Rural Fire Service,” Rural Fire Service Association President, Ken Middleton, said.
“As well as successfully raising funds which have been distributed to our members across New South Wales, we have prudently set aside and invested some funds to ensure sustainable support for firefighters into the future.”
During the last three years, over 85 per cent of net revenue from the Association’s raffle fundraising has been distributed to its members through benefits, including:
· An equipment and infrastructure Grant Scheme open to all Brigades in New South Wales. Grants ranged from GPS units for tankers through to the construction of an airstrip.
· Scholarships.
· Brigade Sponsorship's (events include training exercises for brigades, fire cadet championships).
· Welfare and family support.
The Rural Fire Service A fundraising methodology is similar to many other large charities whereby corporate services are used. These commercial arrangements are regularly reviewed to ensure cost-effectiveness.
The Association extends sincere thanks to the people of New South Wales who have provided support to the members of the New South Wales Rural Fire Service Association through its raffle fundraising campaigns and expresses hope they will continue to do so.
Spokespeople said they will continue to strive to support all of the volunteers in the fantastic jobs that they perform.
