We have a packed program of events again this year and you can find out all the details in the pocket- sized program available at the Young Visitor Information Centre, located in the old railway station building off Lovell Street.
Get into the swing of the festival from 5.30pm today at Anderson Park where you’ll find live music, amusement rides, the Cherry and Charity Queen Coronation and fireworks.
Do come down and support our cherry queen entrants, Hayley Dwyer, Jacqui Everdell and Jemma Long. They’ve worked diligently devising fund raising events and shown tremendous community commitment. It’s time for the 2015 Cherry Queen Kate Schiller and Cherry Charity Queen Clare Palmer to hand the baton on to our 2016 contestants. Thanks to Kate and Clare for representing Young so well, and showing continued interest in the festival and the promotion of our region.
When in Young during cherry season many visitors are keen to embrace the Pick your Own Cherry Experience. While the season has been delayed this year due to a mild spring, it’s good to note there are now plenty of cherries ripe for picking and many orchards offering this unique attraction. Call in to the Visitor Information Centre for more details and maps.
Entries are still being taken for those wishing to join in one of the state’s best street parades, and for people wishing to join in the vehicle display being conducted in the town hall car park.
Entries for both will be accepted on the day provided they are accompanied with the required paperwork. You’ll find parade and vehicle forms at the Information Centre.
Tickets for the popular Bush Poets event to be held on Saturday from 6.30pm at Young Golf Club are available at the Visitor Centre. Cost is $15 per head.
Who bakes the best cherry pie in the Hilltops Region? That’s a question that could be determined on Saturday with Australia’s Best Cherry Pie Contest taking place in town.
Young Services Club have devised this contest and pie entries must be dropped to the Young Service Club no later than 12pm on Saturday accompanied by an entry form a $5 fee. Two cherry pies per entry and one of each pie entry to be auctioned to aid the Young Community Chest.
