The two education days were held to highlight the risks of driving while affected by drugs and/or alcohol. The scenario included 42 students observing a mock road accident, then medical management at the Young District Hospital.
Jakob and Baye underwent training by NSW Ambulance Officer, Stephen Pollard and Clinical Nurse Educator, Katrina Green to prepare for the roles and make the scenario as realistic as possible.
Initiator of the event, Dr Douch, Joanne Garlick from Young District Hospital, along with Stephen and Katrina attended the Cadets session to present certificates to Major Philip Mitchell and both students. Dr Douch was impressed with the enthusiasm and dedication the students demonstrated saying that they’d rehearsed for several weeks prior to the events.
“Those involved in the exercise strongly supported that it be held again, and we look forward to working with the participants next year to deliver another education session that contributes to keeping our young drivers safe on the road,” he said.
