Some parents have to juggle work commitments with making sure their children are entertained and safe, while others have to deal with constantly being told "I'm bored" by their kids.

The Witness asked some local children what they had planned and we have compiled a top five list of those responses.

With Netflix, Stan and Foxtel available in most Young households school children from primary school to high school can choose to binge watch their favourite television shows or catch up on the latest family movies.

Storks, The Secret Life of Pets and Pete's Dragon are amongst the best movies available to watch over the school holidays.

Young skateboarders can practice their moves at the local skate park over the summer months.

Skateboarders will be carving it up with plenty of air and a few big flips and hopefully no bails. 

Spending some time at the local pool is a great way to cool off over the hot summer months.

Remember to slip, slop and slap and to stay hydrated.

The ‘mushroom’ fountain in the children’s pool has proven to be popular and the facilities are open 7 days a week over the holidays from 10 am to 6 pm and sometimes later if it is really hot. 

The pool is also open from 6am-8am from Tuesday to Saturday.

The Summer prices are $4.50 for adults and $2.50 for children.

A sports program for local kids keen to keep fit is being run at the Young North Public School hall.

From January 9 to 13 and January 16 to 20 children can participate in organised sports programs with morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea provided.

The Southern Cross cinema kids club is not just restricted to local’s, children visiting from out of town can also join. A 12-month membership will cost $5 for one child and then $2 per extra child.

Once members, children can attend any kids club movie. Movies are shown every Wednesday during the school holidays at 10.30 am.
