Andrew and Ashleigh Brown were expecting their child on New Year’s Eve but baby Indiana had other ideas and made them wait until January 3.

Indiana Brown was born at 10.03 pm last Tuesday, she was 50 cm tall and she tipped the scales at six pounds, seven ounces.

The bouncing baby girl is the first child for the Brown’s.

But it was not all smooth sailing for the Brown’s as Ashleigh was induced and once born, little Indiana had a medical complication.

“She had some fluid around her skull and she had to be flown to Westmead Hospital in Sydney to be assessed,” Mrs Brown said.

Mr Brown said it was a nervous 30-hour wait for the couple while their daughter was undergoing medical tests in Sydney.

“She got whizzed up to Sydney at three hours old because she had a bit of trouble coming out and we got her back on Thursday at nine in the morning,” he said.

“It was all just precautionary and thankfully everything came back good from the neurologist, it was a bit traumatic for us because we could not go with her.

“It was the longest 30 hours of our lives and we were so relieved when she was returned to us, since then she has been really good.”

The happy couple did not want to know the sex of their baby but they had names picked out in anticipation of the birth.

“There is no special significance to her name and it was a total surprise that we had a girl,” Mrs Brown said.

“She basically told us her name when we met her and we both love it.”

The Brown’s think their daughter will be a force to be reckoned with.

“She had a pretty rough start but she is good now and she will be a tough little one,” Mr Brown said.

Mr Brown said he and his wife were grateful for the care they received at the hospital.

“All the midwives here went above and beyond, now we have a short drive home to Grenfell and we are looking forward to being parents.”
