The program assists seniors and people with a disability who are vulnerable in cases of fire because they are not able to install and or maintain their smoke alarms.
Young Fire station Captain Ryan Terry said local firefighters visit your residence at an arranged time to install a battery-operated smoke alarm or replace existing smoke alarm batteries at no cost.
“All you have to do is supply a working smoking alarm or batteries,” he said.
“So if your over 65 or have a disability that prevents you from maintaining your smoke alarm, have limited domestic support ( no access to family, neighbours or friends who can assist ) and are living in the Young district, then please contact the Fire Station for assistance.
“We are more than happy to help people keep their homes fire safe.”
Young Fire Station can be contacted on 6732 5379 during business hours.
