Tristan Mack was pronounced dead after being pulled from the water at Kookaburra Point on Tuesday despite desperate attempts to revive him.
In comments in Saturday’s The Border Mail, Tristan is remembered as a much loved brother to his six siblings.
“In our hearts you will stay, loved and remembered every day,” the family wrote in a death notice.
Social media has also been filled with tributes to the young boy since his death.
One woman remembered him as a “beautiful soul” and others expressed sadness at a life cut short.
Funeral details will be made available at a later date.
It was the second fatal drowning in the region during summer, bringing safety warnings.
A fruit picker on a working holiday died in the Ovens River at Myrtleford in December after jumping off rocks.
