Firefighters were called out to a property on the Olympic Highway on Friday afternoon to find a fully involved grass fire threatening to burn down a house on the property.
South West Slopes District coordinator Tom McDevitt said firefighters acted quickly to put out the blaze.
“It would appear that there were power lines running through a tree and that could be the possible cause of the fire,” he said.
“The fire burnt about two hectares of land, but we did save the house from any damage.
‘We had a total of six fire trucks and 18 firefighters on scene and they had the fire contained within half an hour.
“Our firefighters given the weather conditions on the day were on a high level of readiness and due to that all the fires that were in our region today were contained within an hour at the most.”
Young local Terry Jackson was on the scene to see fire fighters save his son’s house and was full of praise for the work they did.
“We just want to express our appreciation for the amazing job the fire service did today,” he said.
“We could not imagine a worse day than today for a bush fire and they got on top of it before it could cause any major damage.”
