FOUR individual race records were broken at St Mary's Primary School’s recent swimming carnival.

A packed grandstand full of cheering students, parents and teachers encouraged all swimmers to reach their personal best goals, while some fell short it was not for the lack of trying.
The winning house on the day was McCarthy house.
School sports spokeswoman Leonne Challen said the carnival was one of joy and participation.
“We had a fantastic day with school spirit high,” she said.
Mrs Challen said her favourite moment from the day was the all inclusive relay event.
“At the end of the carnival we had a big relay event where all children were invited to enter a team of four,” she said.
“It was so uplifting to see students who normally would never enter a relay race getting involved and enjoying themselves.
“We had students choosing their stroke, using noodles, laughing and working together to get to the end.
“It was a wonderful opportunity for inclusion for all students with a wide range of abilities.”
One of the records broken on the day has been held since the 1980s.
“Sarah Stratford had held the Senior Girls Backstroke record since 1983 and she was at the carnival to see Abbey Hall claim the new record,” Mrs Challen said.
“It was so fantastic to have Sarah there as a mum and be able to hand over the honour to Abbey.”
School principal Louise Grant said the swimming carnival is always a highlight of term one for the St Mary’s community.
“This year all sorts of records were broken including the record for students participation, with more children than ever entering races and novelty events,” she said.
“Thank you to all the teachers and parent volunteers for making the St Mary’s Swimming carnival such an outstanding day of fun, competition and school spirit.
“The carnival produced some great individual and team results.”

Junior Champions: Evelyn Scott and Bayden Day.
Runner Ups: Mia Davidson and Oliver Burgess.
Intermediate Champions:
Seb Stratford and Isabella Turner.
Runner Ups: Riley Burgess and Olivia Crawford.
Senior Champions:
Louis Clark and Abbey Hall.
Runner Ups: Ned Hufton and Charlotte Crawford.
Record breakers:
St Mary’s record-breaking swimmers were:
Hugo Davidson – 8 yrs 50m freestyle.
Oliver Burgess – 9 yrs 50m Freestyle.
Sebastian Stratford – Intermediate Backstroke.
Abbey Hall – Senior Backstroke and Butterfly.
