Our coverage today also takes us to courts in Russia and Indonesia. A guilty verdict against Putin critic Alexei Navalny, the great hope of many who oppose the Russian president, has disqualified him from politics but will it burnish his reputation at the same time, creating an incarcerated beacon of the type that Anwar Ibrahim became in Malaysia or Aung San Suu Kyi in Myanmar? British DJ David Taylor will be hoping that his reputation among his friends might sway judges in his Bali trial over the killing of police officer Wayan Sudarsa.
By contrast the case of the Louvre attacker in France may seem far more clear-cut. But whether he was part of a trans-national terror network acting on instructions or someone motivated to extreme violence through individual frustrations and anger is important both for how history views him and our understanding of the dangers that lie ahead.
