Botham was eager to get the Yabbies out on the field and run them through their paces with several drills and in the end was pleasantly surprised with the level of talent the players and the club as a whole presented on the grass at Cranfield oval.
Botham threw his new players into a gauntlet as he challenged their skills and abilities by running a number of drills that were designed to test the individual players and their team skills.
The new coach was clearly impressed having said at training that he had a lot of potential in the club to work with.
Botham had previously said that he sees the key to a team’s success is to keep it simple and that mantra will stay with the coach as they face the up coming season.
The new Yabbies coach said that he wants the Rugby Union side to be the best at the simple things on the field and to do the simple things better than any other side in the competition.
“This is not Super Rugby, it is country rugby and it is a simple game,” Botham said.
“I want you [the team] to run as a team not as individuals.
“We will develop the individual skills and use them to the advantage of the team.”
According to Club Press Secretary Cec Finlay, the players responded well to Botham’s first training session and the mood was one of optimism for the upcoming season.

The Young Yabbies are foregoing the Cowra Rugby 10’s this year with the Club as a whole deciding they wanted to focus on their three upcoming trial matches before the start of the ACT competition.
The trial matches organised by the Young Rugby Club have been set with the team heading up against Temora on March 4, Grenfell on March 11 and the third match will either be against Bathurst or Orange City on March 18.
With the season launch coming up in the next couple of weeks, the Young Yabbies Rugby Union Club calls on all players or any interested players to head along to their training sessions to have a crack.
Training is held on Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30 pm at Cranfield Oval.
The Young Yabbies Rugby Union Club also want to remind everyone to follow their Facebook page for all of the Club’s latest updates.
