Mr McCormack produces a commemorative booklet about ANZAC Day, that is distributed to every household in the electorate.
“A highlight for many is the contribution to the booklet of students from across the electorate who participate in the ANZAC writing competition," he said.
"I have written to the more than 120 primary and high schools across my electorate encouraging students to contribute an imaginative and original piece on ANZAC Day.”
Hennessy Catholic College principal Trazel Scott said her students would be honoured to contribute to the booklet.
"Our students consider it a privilege to be offered the opportunity to participate in this initiative," she said.
"We think it is so important for our students to remember those who sacrificed their lives so that we all can live the free life we now enjoy."
Young High School principal Keith Duran said the competition is a great initiative.
"This will give our students the opportunity to research, recognise, appreciate and most importantly remember the sacrifices so many people made so that we can all the lifestyles we have today,” he said.
Two winners will be chosen from each quarter of the electorate.
“I am looking forward to reading every entry, especially those from the new parts of the electorate like Young and no matter where a student is from, their experience and knowledge of ANZAC Day is unique, special and personal,” Mr McCormack said. “This writing competition not only provides an opportunity for students to further their knowledge of our military history and develop their writing skills but to also reflect on their personal experience of ANZAC Day and better appreciate the reasons why we live and enjoy the freedoms we do as Australians today.”
Entries must be received by Monday, March 6, 2017 at the Wagga electorate office.
