According to the MLHD the Murrumbidgee area has a higher incidence of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) that the national average.
MLHD’s focus this year is Kidney Disease & Obesity – Healthy Lifestyle for Healthy Kidneys.
Young Local Health Advisory Committee Chair, Heather Ritchie, said about 23,900 cent of adults in MLHD have indicators of CKD.
“Obesity is a potent risk factor for the development of kidney disease,” Ms Ritchie said.
The MLHD has said almost seven in 10 adults are either overweight or obese which is above the state average.
“The good news is that obesity and type two diabetes is largely preventable,” Ms Ritchie said.
“Education and awareness of the risks of obesity and a healthy lifestyle, including proper nutrition and exercise, can dramatically help in preventing obesity and kidney disease.”
