But in an interview with Short Cuts about Loving, the inter-racial romance that opens in cinemas this week, Joel raved about working on the movie that is still just known as Untitled Nash Edgerton Project. It follows his own directing debut with The Gift two years ago.

"Oh man, it was awesome," Joel said. "There's nothing better than working with Nash. He came and helped me a lot on The Gift. I went and helped him a lot on that - acting and just hanging around.
"And the movie's fantastic. It's a thriller in the vein of Fargo and Burn After Reading. And it's a caper about a guy going into Mexico and getting kidnapped. It has a sense of humour but it's dangerous."
While Nash has been a prolific stunt co-ordinator and stuntman, and has directed Bob Dylan video clips and made short films, the thriller is his first feature film as director since The Square in 2008.
Solid line-up for Young at Heart festival
With veteran actress Lynette Curran??? as patron, the Young at Heart film festival gets under way soon with a solid program of new releases and classics.
Among the highlights of a festival for film lovers over 60 are Their Finest, a comic drama with Gemma Arterton??? as a screenwriter charged with bringing a female perspective to morale-boosting propaganda films during World War II; Looking For Infinity: El Camino, a documentary about travellers on a famous trail in Spain; and the classics The Tales of Hoffman, The Third Man and The Lion In Winter.

The festival runs in Sydney from April 3 to 9 at Palace Norton Street and the Verona, and in Melbourne from April 20 to 26 at Palace Balwyn and Brighton Bay.
Charity screenings for Smurf movie
Australian cinemas will screen previews of the new animated movie Smurfs: The Lost Village for a good cause on Sunday week.
Funds will go towards the Sony Foundation's Children's Holiday Camp Program, which allows children with special needs to be looked after by high school and university students so their families can have a break. Tickets will be $10.
The film, which has a voice cast that includes Demi Lovato???, Julia Roberts, Mandy Patinkin???, Joe Manganiello???, Michelle Rodriguez and Ariel Winter, opens on March 30. The foundation has raised more than $27 million for charity work since 1998.
