On Monday afternoon at around 3.45 pm New South Wales Rural Fire Service were called to a fire on Golden Grove Road north of Young. The New South Wales Rural Fire Service found a single tree that seemed to have been struck by lightning. The responding officers brought the fire under control relatively quickly.
On Monday afternoon at 4.49 pm, New South Wales Rural Fire Service was called to a fire on the property ‘Golden Grove’ near Murringo. The fire burnt around 10 hectares of farmland. The cause of the fire at this stage is undetermined. The fire was extinguished by midnight Tuesday, with New South Wales Rural Fire Service officers monitoring the scene on Tuesday to make sure there were no spark ups. It is believed that the fire started on an adjoining property and spread onto the Golden Grove property.
The rain was well and truly falling by Tuesday when New South Wales Fire and Rescue responded to a building fire in Wombat Street. Fire and Rescue Captain Ryan Terry said he saw large plumes of black smoke coming from the property and activated pagers. When they arrived flames and smoke were coming out of the shed. The 10 occupants of the house had self-evacuated and NSW police evacuated 10 surrounding houses within an exclusion zone that had been set up. The exclusion zone was set up as a matter of caution due to LPG containers on the property. Captain Terry said there was no ammunition fired in the fire as some individuals had been reporting, only LPG cylinders. Captain Terry also said the fire was deemed to be electrical. Assisted by NSWRFS and Ambulance the fire was brought under control within 35 – 40 minutes. Residents were asked to stay indoors and keep their windows and doors closed due to the concern of noxious gas. There were no injuries reported. About 3 pm the property was handed over to police to secure and to remove the gun safe on the property. Captain Terry said he wanted to thank everyone on behalf of Fire and Rescue that was involved in helping at the fire on Tuesday.
