The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the entirety of the South West Slopes and Plains on Wednesday morning.
By 12.30 pm strong winds pushed the storms through town. Soon after the wind died down and heavy and torrential rain pummeled town for about three quarters of an hour causing flooding in the low lying areas of town.
Water across the roads made them slick and at times dangerous to drive on while the storm remained.
At 2.14 pm on Wednesday afternoon the Bureau of Meteorology issued a second severe thunderstorm warning that included the Young region.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology Young received a total of 50.6 mm from Monday up until 9 am on Thursday.
Forecasters at the Bureau of Meteorology have predicted a possible chance of showers early on Friday morning with a top of 25 degrees.
