Royals started the game off robustly and consistently tested the Yabbies defence which held boldly until the big Royals front row forward crashed over the line. Young valiantly tried to hit back with Jess Smith scoring after some good lead up work from a line-out win but the local side was unsettled. The game see-sawed with neither side giving an inch and a number of good moves falling short due to poor decisions and execution. Yabbies came out hard in the second half but couldn’t hold up against the Royals performance. Despite the loss Yabbies coach, Shane Botham was pleased with aspects of the game with the boy’s strong line-outs and pressure applied in scrums, rucks and mauls.
Three points best and fairest went to Thomas Kent who worried the opposition all day, two points to Mick Stallard for his strong game in the centres and one point to Hagan Williams in the engine room.
