Good crowds enjoyed the festival despite the threat of inclement weather.

Hilltops Council’s David Newberry said even though numbers were down this year organisers were really happy with the event.

Mr Newberry said it was a busy weekend all around the region with several other surrounding towns holding events over the weekend too, making the numbers in Young impressive.

The Festival moved to Lynch Street this year from Anderson Park as event organisers took on board feedback from several businesses that they wanted the event to be held closer to the CBD to benefit those that stay open.

Mr Newberry said the shops that stayed open noticed more people visiting their businesses.

Local business owner, Annie Bassingthwaite said that sales at her business, Annie B’s Full House, were the same as last year and that it was great having the Festival in Lynch Street.

But Mrs Bassingthwaite said visitors she talked with were disappointed at the lack of stalls at the festival.

"It was a nice atmosphere and it certainly brought a lot of people to the main street, but there was nothing to keep them there," Mrs Bassingthwaite said.

Mrs Bassingthwaite also believed that people are being more cautious with their finances which would have influenced many visitor’s decision not to attend.

The Young Tourist Information Centre said that from all reports they had received, visitors enjoyed the great weather and had a good time while attending the event. 

Maree Lamb from the Tourist Information Centre said more than a few visitors from out of town visited the festival.

The Lambing Flat Chinese Festival is held in conjunction with Harmony Day and it is a way for the community to come together and remember Young’s past.
