Young clubs get state money

Young Amateur Swimming Association will receive $4,061 to purchase new equipment, and the Young Rugby Union Football Club will receive $1,500 for the purchase of new game and training equipment.

Young Rugby Union Football Club president Wally Everdell said these types of grants always help small local sporting clubs.

“We just apply for everything that is available and we got lucky with this one,” he said.

“This money will help our club as all monies and grants help because most small sports clubs like ours are cash strapped.

“There is a limit to how many chook raffles we can sell to raise money.”

Young Swimming club president Felicity Bell said the money will be put be to good use.

"This type of money is helpful because we are always in need of extra funding," she said.

"Having better equipment helps our swimmer's progress to the next level.

"Of course, we would be in a better position to improve local swimmers abilities if they were able to train all year round so we will be lobbying for an indoor heated pool that we could use in the winter months."

Member for Cootamundra Katrina Hodgkinson said the aim of this program is to support regular participation in sport.

“The government wants to help increase active involvement in recreational activities across NSW,” she said.

"Sport is a huge part of our way of life in regional towns and the NSW Government recognises how important it is for both social and health reasons.”
